Anna Nalick.

Anna Nalick is our next blog! She was originally under Sony's label but ostensibly left due to 'arguments' over the second album - had she stuck with Sony, I can imagine she would have been a little more known that was she is now, but that doesn't deny her talents! She has had two albums. Her debut album, Wreck of the Day was released on April 19, 2005. Her new album "Broken Doll and Odds and Ends" was released on June 5. If you were to recognise Anna, it would probably be from this track...

The track above, Breathe (2AM), is described as her first radio hit, which is good, but it is her only track to have charted anywhere special, and that was only at 45th in the US charts unfortunately. Her other singles, including the one below, seemed to barely scrape the charts...

In The Rough, the music video above, is probably my favourite song of hers so it's a massive shame to see that it didn't do very well in the charts at all. With the right promotion, she could release this song in the UK and I bet it would be a hit because it certainly has the potential, as does Anna herself!

- Zak.

Bombay Bicycle Club

Bombay Bicycle Club

Bombay Bicycle Club are a four piece indie rock band from London, England. The group is made up of Jack Steadman, Jamie MacColl, Suren de Saram and Ed Nash! The group changed line up regularly until the boys met Ed at a funeral- not the brightest of begins, but the group was never going to be your ordinary boyband- they're named after a string of Indian restaurants in London!

The group have released three studio albums, the most recent of which reached a peak of number six in the UK Albums Chart! The groups continued success relies heavily on album sales, but we don't think there's any reason to worry, as the Bombay Bicycle Club look to have a promising future ahead of them!

Nerina Pallot.

Nerina Pallot is next up for me today! I would say she is slightly more popular than the past couple of females I have written about in terms of success as she is a platinum selling, BRIT Award and Ivor Novello Award nominated British singer and songwriter! In fact, if you were to relate Nerina Pallot to any song, it would most likely be this one...

This song (shown above, 'Put Your Hands Up') is fantastic, but unfortunately failed to chart anywhere other than 18th in the UK airplay charts, which is a shame because she's a breath of fresh air with her music in my opinion! Let's take a look at her best-selling song in the UK...

This song, 'Everyone's Gone To War' managed to chart at 14th, which is good, but in my opinion, not nearly good enough for her talent! I would say that with the right promotion, Nerina Pallot could end up being known worldwide, well, I hope so, don't you?

- Zak.

PopLyfe

PopLyfe

PopLyfe are a teen-American band who shot to fame on Season 6 of America's Got Talent! The ages in the group are 13+! This may seem very young, but on the back of their pure courage and commitment, they reached 4th place on America's Got Talent!

The group is carried by Kehlani Parrish, who leads the group through high energy performances such as the above mash-up of I'll Be There/I Want You Back! Kehlani has gained comparisons with The X Factor USA contestant Rachel Crowe!

Let's hope PopLyfe remain together for the forseeable future!

- Jess

Stooshe

Stooshe

Stooshe are a British girl group, based in London, United Kingdom! The group were formed in 2010, and are planning to release their debut album, Swings and Roundabouts later this year! The 'three-piece' is made up of Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold!

The above is the lead single from their debut album, which peaked at #5 in the UK Singles Chart! The 'real' lyrics have drawn comparisons to Lily Allen's truthfulness about sexual encounters in her own tracks!

If 'Love Me' isn't your cup of tea, perhaps you should listen to this acoustic cover of 'Lego House' by Ed Sheeran! The girls are being tipped as the next big girlband, and from these two tracks- we can definitely see why!

- Jess

Charlie Simpson

A well-known face amongst those born in the 90's, Charlie has always been set for a solo career. When he was with Busted, he was belting out some of the biggest pop hits of the 90s, but has made a transition to authentic alternative rock frontman of band Fightstar. He plays a number of instrument, including guitar, piano and drums.

Charlie is launching his own solo career and is currently working on an acoustic album, which I think is definitely one to watch. In my opinion, he has always had the best voice of the Busted lads and whether you were a fan of them or not, Charlie should be on your list of people to check out.

Have a listen to some of Charlie's stuff here:

Maverick Sabre

Now, it's time for our first request, Maverick Sabre. This was requested by @News4Cheryl on Twitter, so thank you for that!

This guy is an Irish-English singer-songwriter and rapper. That's a mouthful.

Sabre is known for his spooky vocals and guitar playing. His EP, Lost Words, was released in March 2011, prior to a collaboration with Professor Green, a similar artist. If you like Professor Green, you'll certainly want to check this guy out.

In February 2012, he continued to rise with the release of his debut album Lonely Are The Brave.

Take a listen to his song, I Need, here:

Also, you can follow the man himself on Twitter here: http://twitter.com/#!/mavericksabre

Gary Clark Jr.

Another one to watch in 2012 is Gary Clark Jr. an American Blues guitarist. Gary has shared the stage with many legends of rock and roll, and his EP "Bright Lights" was released last year. His live performances, as well as his recordings, blend rock, soul and blues, infusing fluid guitar with a guttural howl and a falsetto trill that mix together. The hype is really building around this guym with Rolling Stone declaring Clark "Best Young Gun" in its April 2011, "Best of Rock" issue.

Clark is due to release another record this year, Gary Clark Jr. Presents HWUL Raw Cuts Vol. 1.

Have a listen to Gary here:

And see his website here: http://www.garyclarkjr.com/

Well worth a look, in my opinion.

- Louise

Cimorelli.

Cimorelli or The Cimorelli Sisters are a family oriented group from California, United States. The group consists of six sisters, who have received acclaim for the way they have used social media such as YouTube to form the basis of their musical career.

The sisters have posted around one hundred covers on their YouTube channel, with around 187 million views in total! These girls have definitely got something special going for them, and they are definitely taking the world by storm!

The above is a cover of Skyscraper by Demi Lovato - and in my opinion is one of the best covers available of the song! Their unique take on the song has reached over six million views- becoming one of their most viewed videos!

The thing which appeals to me the most about Cimorelli is the sense of family security, and how they all work together well! We could all learn a sense of family from these girls, and e can only wish that they continue posting their unique covers in the future!

- Jess.

Erika Fatale.

Erika Fatale is my next girl. She is described, by last.fm, as having "looks to kill, combined with vocal power, soul and emotion way beyond her years, make Erika Fatale a force to be reckoned with; her audience will have no choice but be seduced by her hypnotic spell." I would have to agree with all of that quote, so it's a shame she's so unknown - she doesn't even have a Wikipedia page... disaster!

The song above, called 'That Naive', is something very special in my opinion and backs up the quote from last.fm perfectly. I think I'll post one more video to spoil you with her vocal talents, but after that, it's up to you to research her!

In fact, there's not many more I could have posted since she's that unknown, so she is definitely one of the reasons we have started this blog, but we definitely think you should keep your eyes open as with the right promotion, she is superstar-material, fo'sho.

- Zak.

Soul Circus Cowboys

Soul Circus Cowboys

We head back across the pond for my next choice of artist- the Soul Circus Cowboys! The group have described their music as 'hard southern rock'- a genre which fits their 'tough guys mould' completely! However, when you hear their tracks, you'll soon realise that the group have a definite edge to them- whilst still having a likeable tone to their music!

The group is made up of lead vocalist Billy McKnight, bass guitarist Jason Gaines, drummer Jason Alfano and lead guitarist Johnny Chromatic!

The above track is a track from their debut 'country rock' album, and is a track which I believe demonstrates their vulnerability as a group, with the song being praised by viewers as it's 'so easy to relate to'! I strongly recommend you give the track a listen, as well as independently researching the group! You'll soon see what a wide range of tracks they have!

- Jess

Imelda May.

Imelda May is my next choice of female to write about, and I have to say she is one of my most-favourite artists ever - once you've listened to just one of her songs, you'll see what I'm talking about! She's an Irish musician (singer/songwriter) and has been very successful in Ireland, having her second and third album reach number one, which is impressive & deserved, just listen to Mayhem!

It's fantastic isn't it? Yes is the answer! She was mostly recognised after performing on the Jools Holland show (whom she then supported on tour). Imelda has also done a few covers, like most artists, and her performance of 'Tainted Love' is brilliant...

Love her as much as I do yet? I hope so, so go off and research her some more as that's what I'll be doing for the next half an hour. If you are a fan, let's just hope she manages to get further success in the United Kingdon and possibly the USA rather than solely Ireland (which is still brilliant of course). She's definitely one to watch!

- Zak.

East Arbor 19

East Arbor 19

East Arbor 19 is a four piece indie rock band based in London, UK- headed by ex-EastEnders actor Tom Law! However, Tom is not the only band member with former 'celebrity status' - experienced drummer Elliot Andrews has worked with popular 'quirky girl' Kate Nash! The foursome is completed by bass player Daniel Logan and guitarist Dane Etteridge!

The above is their first original composition, inspired by the death of Amy Winehouse. The piece reflects upon other artists to join the '27 Club'. The song is a clever play on the 'curse' of 27- with lyrics expressing '27 years, and no way home'. This song has an edge to it, and displays great maturity for a debut recording!

The second original song is titled 'Ooh La La' and is moderately different from '27 Years'- the main influence in this song is being young and 'stopping out'. This song may be a little too 'raw' for the current charts, but with the right promotion this track would be a guaranteed smash! With the band ranging from their late teens to their early twenties, it is clear that this foursome have a great future ahead of them!

- Jess

Gabrielle Aplin.

Gabrielle Aplin is a nineteen year old singer/songwriter who, three years ago, was recognised over YouTube when she covered a song called My Heart by Paramore, which managed to gain a few hundred-thousand views! She then also had a lot of YT success with her cover of a You Me At Six song, which she first recorded a version when she was thirteen, but waited for a few years to then rerecord it for her EP - let's take a look at My Heart first...

I think it's excellent, don't you? The next track I want to show you (because I'm so kind!) is from the EP 'Never Fade' as it featured the track 'Panic Cord' which was also used on Made in Chelsea, so any of you Made in Chelsea fans may well recognise this...

I hope after reading this you go off to research Gabrielle Aplin in a little further detail and then love her as much as I do. I fully expect that in a few years, she will be hitting the charts and I will take most of the credit for it... in fact, no, all of the credit for it!

- Zak.

The Loveable Rogues

The Loveable Rogues

The Loveable Rogues are an acoustic rap trio based in the UK- who recently caught our eye by appearing on Britain's Got Talent! Voting figures released this morning have revealed that The Loveable Rogues finished in 4th place- as well as topping their semi final vote.

The above is their self-penned track Love Sick- which is very likely to be released as their debut single when they get signed.  At the moment of typing, their BGT audition has received over 1 million views!

As well as their own material, The Loveable Rogues also have a number of covers available on YouTube! We would advise that you watch this space for the announcement that they have been given a record deal- with an independent or well-known label- and for all of you readers across the pond- remember that you heard about them first- here at Uprising!

Amanda Mair.

Amanda Mair is next, and from her real name (Amanda Ulrika Magdalena Mair), I don't think it would come as too big of a shock if I were to tell you that she is indeed Swedish! She has just the one album, which has acquired a total of four albums. Speaking of her self-titled debut, the Washington Post wrote "The 16 (yes, 16)-year-old Mair sounds more like Kate Bush on her gorgeous, grown-up's debut track than Kate Bush herself", being compared to a young Kate Bush is quite something!

The song above, Sense, has got to be my favourite song of hers. It is brilliant, and I personally can definitely see that resemblance to Kate Bush the Washington Post was talking about. In fact, I'm not sure, maybe this is my favourite song by Amanda...

I cannot decide, they're both excellent! So, she had good success with her debut album in Sweden, by placing 16th in the Swedish charts, but we hope to see her fanbase spread a bit more across Europe (especially England) somewhat soon!

- Zak.

Anna Calvi.

Anna Calvi is the next one! I figured it was time for someone who was a little more recognisable than the previous few females I have blogged about tonight/today. Anyway, she has one album, which is self-titled, and has had satisfactory success with this album (which I think is brilliant - the album, not the success)! From this album, she's managed to release three singles, and another two which are not album tracks, such as the one below...

Despite being 30 years old, she has only been in the music business for six years, but in these six years, she has accumulated a total of five nominations (in terms of awards) and one win, which is impressive. These awards, unsurprisngly, surround the concept of 'Best Breakthrough Artist', she's had some success, we feel she deserves more...

The song above, Desire, is one of my favourite songs overall, and definitely one of my favourites from Anna Calvi herself - it is a spectacular song! Although there has been nothing said about a second album up until now, I hope to see one soon, don't you?

- Zak.

Fallulah.

Fallulah is my next girl in line to 'discover' tonight! She is also a singer/songwriter like many of the other girls I have written about tonight. Maria Apetri is her real name (although Fallulah would make a great real name unfortunately) and she is from Denmark! So, it's not too surprising she doesn't have the largest popularity here in England, but she is a bit known, especially for this song below...

Recognise it? If you do, I'm glad, if you don't, then that's what you're here... I hope! She has a very unique voice which can be explored in one album, four singles and one EP, with another album later this year, we hope! I'm going to give you a peak of one more single of Fallulah's and then I hope you're going to research her for yourself, as she is truly fantastic!

Are you a fan of Fallulah yet? If you are, I fully expect you to be heading to YouTube (in a different tab of course, not closing our blog!) and researching her a little more, sounds good! Her twitter is @fallulahmusic if you're interested as well. I love Fallulah.

- Zak.

Lena.

Lena is a singer/songwriter from Germany, that's right, we're going a bit European for our next 'uprising discovery' - but that doesn't mean you shouldn't know her, anyone who watched Eurovision in 2010 should recognise Lena! She came first when representing Norway, but has represented Germany two or three times as well. She's had a lot of success in Germany, with her debut album reaching gold-certification (a sale of over 500,000 units), and three singles reaching the top five in the German charts...

The song above is 'Taken By A Stranger' and is one of my favourites; I personally think it, and she, is fantastic. This song represented Germany in the 2011 Eurovision song-contest & was fairly successful. Speaking of Eurovision, I might as well show you her winning in 2010...

There she is performing Satellite! So, it's true, she's had a lot of success in Germany and various other European countries, so she's not as unknown as some of our other 'uprising discoveries', but we would like to boost her popularity in England of course - go research her a bit more!

- Zak.

Noah Stewart.

Moving onto a different thing entirely, let me tell you about Noah Stewart. He's an American tenor that is just beginning to receive commercial success in the UK. His debut album, "Noah", was released on March 26th, 2012 and entered the Official Album chart at #14, and attaining the #1 spot on the UK Classical Albums Chart. Interestingly, he's also the first black artist to top that same chart.

Have a listen to Noah Stewart singing "Without A Song" here:

Definitely worth a listen if this is up your street!

As a side note,  Simon Gage of The Daily Express gave the album a positive review stating, "This album couldn’t be a better showcase, mixing classic tracks with contemporary material such as Sting’s Fields Of Gold and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. The voice is flawless and the production pure class while the man himself is something of a major dish into the bargain."

- Louise

Carrie Mac.

Carrie Mac is most likely best known from being one of the three supporting acts of Alexandra Burke's 'All Night Long' tour (which I seen myself), and Carrie was definitely a highlight of the night! She is most definitely our least recognisable artist out of the selection we have posted about so far, but that doesn't deny her talent! Let me show you...

Above is her only music video she has made so far, but I would personally say it's fantastic - this is the song she performed at the All Night Long tour - she opened the night... spectacularly. I'm going to spoil you with one more song called 'Falling At My Feet'.

After those two videos, you must love her as much as I do. However, now the ball is in your park, so go and research her and hopefully Carrie Mac will be stormng the charts soon.

- Zak.

Meanwhile In Tinseltown

Meanwhile In Tinseltown

Meanwhile In Tinseltown are a British band, who have reached success by posting videos on many social media sites, such as YouTube- where they post their music under the account MITinseltown! Another 'claim to fame', is that vocalist Max Milner is a contestant on The Voice UK- where he wowed judges with his rendition of Come Together/Lose Yourself.

The above is an original composition called 'My Compliments', and if any new tracks (which we hope will be from an album) are released- this track gives great insight to the kind of act Meanwhile In Tinseltown strive to be!

We wish Max Milner further success in The Voice and make a plea to him that he remains with Meanwhile In Tinseltown- as well as launching what promises to be a very successful solo career!

- Jess

Azealia Banks.

Azealia Banks is described as a rapper, singer and lyricist from Harlem, but more importantly, who I'll be cheering to do well for my second choice of female artist! She's been nominated for two awards, one which she won, the other which she placed third place & has had only one single, which is called 212 and had the 'okay' success of placing 12th in the UK charts, do you?

But, just like Clare, 12th place isn't good enough for me! However, I think that's down to the song itself, so I would like to see her release something like this in the future, which is her cover of Slow Hands by Interpol - it's fantastic!

She's really great and a real treat to listen to, she's not something we see every day. I hope to see her hitting the charts hard soon, don't you?

- Zak.

Allen Stone

The next male artist we feel you must know about is Allen Stone. Having already had some success, such as performing on Conan in late 2011, this soul singer is definitely one to watch and check out this year. His eye catching quirky look, along with his extremely divine voice make up an fantastically interesting package.

He has two self-released records, Last To Speak (2010) and a self titled album "Allen Stone" (2011).
"Allen Stone" peaked at the number 2 spot on the R&B/Soul charts on iTunes and hit #9 and #35 on the Billboard Heatseekers and R&B/Hip Hop Album charts, respectively.

Have a listen to Allen here:

He's thoroughy enjoyable and his falsetto is just something else altogether. Keep listening!

- Louise

An Horse

An Horse

An Horse are an Australian indie rock duo, compromising of lead vocalist and guitarist Kate Cooper and drummer Damon Cox. This is not Kate's only group venture, as she is also one of the lead vocalists in Iron On (another group I would strongly suggest you check out!)

The above video is a track from An Horse's debut EP, Not Really Scared- and I'm sure you'll agree, this track (and others) leave us wondering why one earth An Horse is nowhere near as prominent in the industry as they should be! Many of the duo's tracks are available on YouTube, as well as their second album Walls available for preview, but not purchase on iTunes.

If you are a fan of An Horse, it is recommended that you delve further into YouTube to find some of Kate Cooper's material from when she was in Iron On- as they also have somevery strong tracks which are well worth a listen!

- Jess

Clare Maguire.

Clare Maguire, a popular support act for Plan B & Hurts in 2011, is a singer/song-writer whose musical genres lie somewhere between Trip-hop and Electropop, who has managed to gain moderate success with her first (fantastic) album called Light After Dark, however as far as I'm concerned, this 'moderate success' is not enough for this talent! I'm sure you will agree with me after you take a listen to these gems below.

The song above, The Last Dance, was her second official single which managed to peak at number #23 in the charts, you have to agree that it deserves a bit higher than 23... like, #1 for example - especially since her voice has been compared to the legends of Stevie Nicks & Annie Lennox! Anyway, I think I'll spoil you by letting you have a look at one more, in fact, this one is my favourite on the album - a song that hasn't been released called 'You're Electric'!

A second album is expected somewhat soon this year, and I will be the first one to go out and buy it. Clare has been nominated for four awards and has successfully won one award, all regarding the concept that she'll be the 'next big thing'. Well, I hope so and we at Uprising suggest you keep a very close eye for this 24-year-old vocal sensation in the near future!

- Zak.

Brent Anderson

The first male artist I'll be blogging about is the wonderful Brent Anderson. Brent is a 23 year old acoustic country artist, who is releasing his debut album this year. He has supported many acts already, including Brad Paisley, Ronnie Dunn and Jerrod Niemann. In the latter part of 2011, his debut single "Amy's Song" was all over country radio.

As a country fan, I personally have enjoyed the music I've heard from Brett thus far. I'd be inclined to say he'd appeal most to those of you that enjoy Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw, artists like that. If you like any type of country music at all though, he's worth a listen and is definitely a fresh addition to an almost forgotten genre.

Another thing I would say about Brent is that he's not all country. A lot of his songs have a slightly more rocky feel to them, sort of like a fusion of the two genres, which is enjoyable.

Have a listen to his debut single "Amy's song" and tell us what you think!

- Louise.

The Daydream Club

The Daydream Club

The Daydream Club are an acoustic duo based in the UK. The duo consists of Paula Walker and Adam Pickering. Unlike some of our other 'spotted' talents, The Daydream Club are signed to Poco Poco Records, releasing their debut album Overgrown in 2010.

In The Arms of Another Day

On The Move (Part II)

Their debut album gained 4/5 stars in a review by Chicago-based Consequence of Sound and album tracks such as 'The Affair', 'The Record Shop' and 'Square' received radio play on local radio stations owned by the BBC.

We at Uprising feel that the The Daydream Club have a long and fruitful career ahead of them, and we advise you to give their music a listen!

- Jess

Welcome!

Welcome to Uprising!

On this blog, you'll encounter posts from the group members, Louise (me!), Zak and Jess. Discover and discuss new music with us!

If you're a music lover (of any genre!) you should stick around. We'll be bringing you information, favourite songs & pictures about many new upcoming (or "uprising", heh) artists. Zak will be bringing you news about female acts, I'll be discussing the men and Jess will be focussing on the groups.

If you have a favourite act, we'd love suggestions on acts to write about and we would of course, give you credit in that blog post for the suggestion.

Of course, if you're going to be reading our (extremely subjective) opinions then you'll want to know a bit about us. Because we're very interesting. Really.

First up, you've got Zak! Zak is a 16-year old mophead from Newcastle. He has a keen interest in ladies, which is why his speciality on this blog will be the female artists. His favourite genres of music include Blues & Rock and some of his favourite artists are Joshua Radin and Emeli Sande.

Next up, it's Jess! Jess is our 27 year old blogger from York. She'll be dealing with blog posts about groups. Her favourite genres of music are pop and alternative and her favourite artists include Siobhan Donaghy and Regina Spektor.

Last, and maybe even least, there's me Louise, a 22 year old student from Dublin. I'll be dealing with the boys, because I like doing that. My personal favourite genres of music would be indie pop and country and some of my favourite artists include Taylor Swift, BOY and Hot Chelle Rae.

And there you have it! Stay tuned for our first blog post, coming soon.
